Crawfordsville High School’s volleyball team’s confidence is rising.

With
the Athenians dominant 25-16, 25-8, 25-9 win over visiting North
Vermillion on Tuesday night, they’ve moved back to the .500 mark.

They
played with a little bit of a different line-up and coach Kelly Johnson
has started to see them start to develop some key consistency.

That’s a huge boost, especially with a huge rivalry game against West Lafayette coming up on Thursday night.

Senior
Elizabeth Zachary led Crawfordsville (5-5) with 24 assists. Junior
Lindsay Leech added eight kills and seven digs, while junior Kylie
Justus had seven kills.

Sarah Barr and Becca Goebel each moved up from the junior varsity and added three kills apiece.

“It
was a good night for us,” Johnson said. “We need these confidence
boosters to work our way to the next level. We did not stoop to a
different level. We stayed into our game and had a pretty nice match.”

THE PAPER

LIZTON – Jim Kochert needed only one word to describe Saturday’s Sagamore Athletic Conference boys soccer game – frustrating.

Crawfordsville
High School’s coach lost one player, senior James Miller, with an
injured ankle and watched the Athenians struggle in a physical game.

Conference rival Tri-West shut out visiting Crawfordsville 2-0, giving the Athenians their first conference loss.

The defeat ended Crawfordsville’s two-game winning streak.

Crawfordsville’s (4-2, 2-1 SAC) senior goalie Miguel Salazar had five saves.

“It was a relatively physical game,” Kochert said. “Tri-West was a good team, a quick team . . . It’s frustrating.”

Crawfordsville
next plays at 5 p.m. Wednesday at home against South Vermillion then
faces conference foe Frankfort on Wednesday.
