WEST
LAFAYETTE – Instead of stealing bases, Crawfordsville High School’s top-5 ranked
baseball team stole an extra-inning win Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to a
four-run eighth inning and stellar pitching by senior Andrew Swart, the Class 3A
No. 4 Athenians won their seventh consecutive game.

Visiting
Crawfordsville junior Brett Linn had three hits and scored two runs in the
Athenians’ 5-1 eight-inning win Saturday against West
Lafayette.

Crawfordsville’s (9-2) ace Swart threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing
only one unearned run and striking out eight batters.

After serving a
10-game suspension from violating the school’s athletic code during the winter
sports season, senior Cameron Hobson made his return to the line-up.

He
went 1-for-2 as a pinch hitter, including hitting a leadoff single to start the
Athenians’ four-run eighth inning.

Junior Scott Hunt and senior Cody
Dowell each had RBIs. Steven Rice pitched the last 1 2/3 innings and earned his
first win.

“This was a good win for our program against a competitive
team,” Crawfordsville coach John Froedge said in an e-mail.

Crawfordsville next plays at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Sagamore Athletic
Conference rival Lebanon.
